Update
Hey there! I hope the beginning of 2023 has been good! I have been keeping busy and hitting the ground running in the new year. I've started with the content creation by creating some shorts on my social platforms and that has been a fun experience getting out of my shell! I got some camera gear so I can utilize my Sony camera and I'll be starting to film some longer form video as well for YouTube!
Also been hitting the development learning track hard. I just finished the Frontend Capstone for Meta's Coursera course. There's just one more course left for me to finish the course track and then that will be completed. While I'm doing that, I am still doing the iOS/Android Development courses too. Working on mobile development is my dream for me currently.
My next step is to start getting my resume and portfolio with all the projects that I created. I currently do have a website, but I would like to update it to use some of the new things I've learned and build it based on React instead of just vanilla HTML/CSS/JS. I've started the work and hoping to get it done ASAP.
I hope you guys have been tackling your goals as well and continuously progressing!
Imposter Syndrome
One of the big things that comes up a lot while I'm learning new stuff is Imposter Syndrome. Sometimes usually right before getting into doing something professionally, you wonder if you know what you are doing. You start to compare yourself to other people who have been doing it for years and question yourself if you can do the same. This happens with a lot of things besides getting into tech and it is normal. I have had this experience when moving into new roles in my career as well as doing new gigs at my side projects (one of them being this newsletter).
This is absolutely something that comes with the territory of going into new things, but you can't let it stop you. All the people who on the outside look like they are savants at their craft all started right where you were. Truth be told, you are your biggest critic so you probably are much better than what you are giving yourself credit for. Granted there are always exceptions to this, but let's go with the idea that you are doing well haha.
I think the only way to get over Imposter Syndrome is to just make the jump eventually. Without making the jump, you will not know what you need to work on to reach your goal. Yes, you may fail, but with that failure is an opportunity to grow yourself and learn. If you keep going, you will be able to keep improving yourself and be able to be the best you can be at something.
Everyone struggles with this. It is normal. I still struggle with my System Admin work at times. The thing that separates people who can do the job and the people who aren’t is that they can take the risk and continue trying to grow. Continue working on yourself and don’t give up on your goals!
I hope this helps you! Feel free to reach out if it did!
