Hey there! Another couple of weeks have gone by and we are getting really into the thick of things. The next semester of teaching has started up for me so getting into the swing of that has been an adjustment after being off, as well as continuing my studies and other ambitions in life as well. Vision Pro preorders started today also! While I'm not jumping on the bandwagon of preordering this device, I am excited about all the information and how this device performs. I think this could be an interesting product category for Apple, so I'm excited for the future of it. Hopefully, you guys have been doing well with getting the new year started!
Productivity Tools: Work or Distraction?
So if you are around me in person nowadays, I am always trying to add something new in my life to try and give me the impression of being more productive. Usually, it is some new application or some new physical thing to try to enhance whatever I'm trying to accomplish in life at the time. It has become somewhat of an addiction and I have started to think to myself "Am I being more productive?"
The thing that I have to come to terms with though recently, is that a lot of this is just all in the impression and feeling that you are becoming more productive. There is a level of personal accountability that needs to start coming into play in some of these situations. I have started to realize that you have to want to be more productive for any of these tools to work. They at the end of the day are just tools. There is no magic solution that fixes all the problems and just makes you a productivity machine. You still need to do the work.
I have noticed that sometimes I overcomplicate and love the idea of adding something new and trying to enhance the flow of being productive, but I'm not actually becoming and being more productive. Realistically, sometimes I'm actually hindering my productivity. When the time it takes to check off or plan an action takes longer than the action itself, it might be time to realize that I'm not helping the situation. I am just telling myself that I am being productive and that is about it.
I think something that I'm going to start doing in 2024, is taking a look at all the tools that I'm using and being more aware of the processes that I'm doing. Asking myself questions like are these really necessary and am I helping myself by adding these things into my life? I think those are something that can be important in the long run for actually being productive.
At the end of the day, doing the work and staying focused is the best way to be productive. Yes, some tools can help the process, but the best way is to hold yourself accountable and stay focused on the tasks at hand to reach your overall goals.
How about you? Do you feel like sometimes you get stuck in the trap of using all these tools, but not accomplishing much?
