Hey there friends! It has been a while! I hope you guys have been doing good! I have had so many things going on that veered me off a bit, but now I'm starting to get back on track. How have you guys been doing? Recently, I got to try the Vision Pro from Apple and that thing is insane! It is the topic of this newsletter!
My Vision Pro Future Feelings
Let's go back to almost a year ago. A little bit before Vision Pro was announced. The rumors of the Apple headset were going around for years at this point and it seemed like Apple was finally going to announce it. At this point, I still haven't made the plunge to try VR except in small doses every couple of years or so and I wasn't fully convinced yet. To me, it was something that looked cool but didn't have a real purpose in my life yet. It was sort of a fad in my mind. Was I excited for Apple to finally announce theirs? Sure. I like new tech coming out, but I thought it was just going to be too expensive for me and nothing life-changing.
Then Apple announced theirs and my immediate response was this is cool, I'm interested, but wait how much? Yeah, not a chance. That price is going to need to come down for me to want to purchase one of these things. I still stand by that sentiment, but something happened.
We are a year later and the device is now available for purchase. It is out in people's hands and all the reviewers have published their reviews about the device and moved on to the next thing like every other tech release. After it was released though, I did find out that you can go test this device without any commitment to buying the device at all at the Apple Store. You can go sit down and an Apple rep will walk you through the device and show you all the magical things that it can do. So, I said sure, why not? I'll try it. And that is when things started to change.
See, I can't sit here and recommend anyone to purchase this thing. I only used it for about half an hour in a guided tour scenario where they tried to quickly take me through this curated experience (trying to convince me to buy the thing of course), but what I can tell you is how I felt about it. (I'll link an awesome from Jon Prosser) review down below)
I am fully into VR. I can see the use case for this and the future that it will become. Being able to have this device showcase information and tools right in front of you is such a great feature to have. While the device didn't have that use case to have that big headset on your face, what it did show me is where we are heading. We are heading towards a future where this device will get smaller and smaller and have more and more functionality and I am super excited for that.
Right now, since it doesn’t have this feature that is changing the game it is a fad a this point. Yes, it can enhance certain things, but for me, there is still that barrier of entry every time that you want to use the device. You have to go out of your way to know that you want to actively be inside of this and a part of that world. That is a negative to me. What this did do for me though is make me super interested in Meta's Ray Ban glasses. It helps that I'm a big Ray Ban fan, but a part of me is tempted to add that to my life. Grab those glasses and wear them constantly to get kind of the first experience of having something on your face at all hours of the day.
So in conclusion, did that demo convince me to buy the product? Nope. Did it get me excited for the future? Absolutely! I can't wait to see what else they are going to come out with the future of this product!
What about you? Have you gotten a chance to try out the new Vision Pro?
