Hello there! Hope your last two weeks have been great. I've been down and out here and there dealing with a minor cold that kind of took me out of my routine. Today should be the first day that I'm back on the routine that I have set for myself and hopefully I can get back on track. The break from the constant grind has been nice (although I was sick), but now it is time to get back into the swing of things to progress further. Vision Pro also came out! It looks pretty cool so far, but it is definitely a first generation product. It did get me interested though in the Quest 3. Might have to pick one of those up in the next coming months. What about you guys? Have you been working on achieving your goals?
Let’s Talk About AI
So we are moving more and more into the world of AI at a rate that seems to be going faster and faster every day. Advances constantly keep being made and it almost is at a point where every application that you try to use utilizes AI in some shape or form. Just recently yesterday, OpenAI (creators of ChatGPT) announced their new AI model called SORA. This one has the ability to make short video clips and boy do they look surprisingly realistic. It is in very limited access at the moment and definitely has some weird things going on with the rendering, but the technology is there.
This brings me to my thoughts about this. I'm right in the middle. I love the technology and think that it is awesome….but I'm also nervous about it. You see, AI is one of those things that I think is going to have a ton of benefits in our future. With all the companies starting to implement it more and more into our devices (Google just released their model Gemini that is available for Android), and the tools becoming more and more useful, it almost is starting to become a staple in our lives. This sounds great right? Having technology help with post titles or crafting emails? From this standpoint you would be right, this does sound great, but there is another side.
With the video advancements, imagine you are an individual and someone has enough footage of you and they are able to craft something you didn't do with AI. That is scary. That can actually start to affect individuals lives and that is the part that I am not a fan of. This is such new technology and it is on the dangerous part where something bad can happen. This is why we as a society need to be very careful and responsible with this. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that we will. We are human after all.
I'm not sure where to go with it though. I can definitely be aware that the technology is here. It isn't going anywhere and it will continue to be a part of our lives, but also it is nerve wracking because of the things that it can imply. At this point, I can try to learn the technology and try to use it for my benefit. The reality is that everyone will be doing this so it is important to stay up to date with the newest technologies, but on the flip side, this is nerve-wracking to some level about what can be done with this information.
What do you think of this information? Is this something that you are nervous about?
