Update

Hello there! Hope everyone has been doing well. I've been juggling all my different passions, but this week I've had a pretty good push on getting some things done. The main big project that I'm working on right now is getting my portfolio done. At the time of writing this, I just have my project section left and creating a navigation bar. I've created all of this with the React framework and I have been enjoying it thoroughly. I'm hoping the next time that you get a newsletter from me, the website will be done and live. I'll let you guys know though!

What is Success

What is success? This is something that I have always struggled with and still do. Everyone defines it differently and has different ideas for how they define they are successful. Some use money as a metric, some use achievements and recognition as their definition and levels.

I have placed a lot of my definition of success on the achievements that I have accomplished. I can't say that it is a good thing or bad thing, but that is currently what I have been doing and has led me here. I would say that I have become pretty successful with this method. I have achieved a lot of employment and collegiate-wise and have been constantly pushing myself to achieve more. I put a lot of my success into this drive to keep reaching these achievements.

The thing with using achievements as your driving metric is that if you aren't careful, you can let them take over you. For example, if all your success is based on achieving something, what do you do once you reach a certain level of achievement? Is there something that you will ever be satisfied with? That is something I have always struggled with. For example, right before I finished my Master's degree I was already thinking about getting my Ph.D. It is almost like I didn't even fully celebrate receiving my Master's Degree. The same thing happens when I finish a project at work or even get a new job or promotion. I'm immediately looking at the next thing. It makes you wonder, will I ever be satisfied with how much you have achieved? It is almost like I have constant pressure on myself that

It is a difficult thing to try and balance because I think that not being fully satisfied with where you stand is a good thing. This kind of mentality is something that I think separates someone from achieving a little and achieving a lot. While this sounds good, there is also a dangerous viewpoint of this. This is something that an individual needs to be able to balance correctly. If you aren't able to balance it correctly, it becomes an issue with balancing the multiple things that stress comes with. It also can be an issue that if you aren't ever satisfied, you will never truly be happy. This is something you should always keep an eye on if you have the mentality that I have of always looking for the next thing. Getting fatigued from working a lot or never appreciating what you have done so far can lead to you eventually just not enjoying anything including the work that you are doing.

If I can give you any advice if you are trying to be successful, it will be this. It is okay to take a break. It is okay to take a seat back and appreciate the things that you have accomplished. You need that sometimes to reset and give yourself some rest. Being able to appreciate the many things that you have achieved as well is important. What is the point of achieving all these things if you never take the time to appreciate the things that you have built?

Hopefully, these ideas help in some shape for those who are constantly trying to achieve more and more. I know that I need to make a personal effort in doing this and hope you will as well.
