Hello, hello! Another newsletter coming in hot! I've been pretty busy behind the scenes working on some projects. At the time of writing this, I should be getting ready to start filming my first YouTube Review video for a product (Pixel Fold Long Term Review) so be on the lookout for that. I will give the disclaimer that it might take a bit to edit and fully film because this is my first go around, but this is something that I have been wanting and looking forward to so what better time to start it than the present? I have also been starting to work on other things behind the phase and work has been amping up a bit for the time being. I've started to work on some new projects and it has been awesome. How about you guys? Have you been spending the beginning of the new year (I can't believe we are in 2024 already) staying busy?
New Products
So at the time of writing this, the new Vision Pro is being released into the hands of the individuals who have pre-ordered the device. All this week, we have been receiving reviews from the many individuals who have had the device early (S/O MKBHD & The Verge to name a couple of good videos to watch about the product) and it got me thinking do I really need to add ANOTHER device into my life. You see in the previous newsletter, I would sit here and talk about the many different things applications, or processes that I try to make myself more productive, but something else I sometimes suffer from is just adding too many devices or things into my life.
This is easy to believe though that I might have this issue. I mean I'm the guy that has a "purpose" for multiple laptops and carries three phones with him on the daily. While all that is cool and having all these things seem cool, it does bring the question, of why are they necessary. Some could argue and I wouldn't argue that hard back that I don't need all of these things. That is true. However, these are my hobbies so this is what I do haha. The one thing that I do though when I think about these things is is there a purpose for this.
I'll bring you through an exercise that I did. When I was debating on starting to carry around whatever the latest flavor of Google's Pixel that I wanted to carry around with me as a secondary device, I had to think about the use case behind it and if it was necessary. Sure, I can easily say that I just wanted to carry the phone, but I did think about how it would impact my life and my workflow. It had to do more than just do the basic things my iPhone could easily do. My reasoning (even though I got the Pixel 6 Pro first) was the idea that eventually the Pixel Fold will be out and I will be able to do my reading on the device. The same exercise came through when I added the Galaxy Z Fold5. What purpose would this device serve? That one's main goal was to replace my field notebook for writing (and a little selfishly I wanted to try out One UI).
And that is the main exercise that I try to do when I'm thinking about adding a new product to my life. What could it possibly do for me? It needs to make some sort of impact on my life. Personally, this kind of exercise I think everyone should be doing all the time. It is the same exercise of why I didn't get the Vision Pro (besides the astronomical price tag). I couldn't find the use case that I would be using this device all the time. It seemed like something that I didn't necessarily need and wouldn't make the impact I would need.
What about you? How do you make a decision on which products you add to your life?
